The new face of Microsoft Server 2008
All the details and a Beta download for those interested in giving it
a spin. Training, podcasts, Documents etc.. The main features of Server
2008 are:- A new Solid Foundation, Virtualization and Security.
Microsoft Server 2008
Server / Web Product Features: Windows Power shell, Intergrated performance
and reliability console, Rich event Viewer, Role-based installation,
Windows Server Core, WAN Traffic Tools, Centralized Printer Management,
Task based interface, Cross-site copy and Delagated Administration.
We are great believers in Virtualization and this is a main feature
of Server 2008. We have been using Virtual Server for PC and Virtual
Server on our Servers and the more we use them the better they get.
Our only advice is remember that you are splitting your resouces been
the machines. So both memory and processors can slow depending on not
just the amount of virtual machines you are running, but the processes
running on them. That said, for those that run communications machines
that only send and recieve every now and again. This can be a massive
resource saver.
Microsoft Windows Home Server
Microsoft has released its home software opertating system to manurfactures.
Some have been quick to jump on this and have released machines on the
market already. HP are one such provider with their MediaSmart Machine.
Hewlett-Packard MediaSmart Home Server will be sold in two models which
are identical apart from the amount of included storage as one contains
500GB, while the other unit offers 1TB.
Other manufacturers of the Home Server include Fujitsu-Siemens Computers,
Gateway, and Iomega. More are expected.
Being Beta testers of the Windows Home Server we can highly recommend
this operating system, and if you can get your hands on the OS it is
great for turning an old PC into network storage and internet remote
access point.
